The EA Sports FC 24 Gameplay Deep Dive on July 18th gave us quite a deep insight into the way the latest game will be played.
With all the information we have available we’ve made a list of the top new features that you need to use, and familiarise yourself with, for the best gameplay experience in EA Sports FC 24.
Without further ado, let’s dive into it
Top 10 New Gameplay Features in EA Sports FC 24
10. Kinetic Physical Play [Next Gen]
Kinetic Physical play is the new way in which players will interact with each other, especially in a back to the opponent shielding mechanism.
This is a next-gen game mechanism and will have different uses especially with high strength attackers versus defenders.
Here you can see how the game will simulate a duel between Alexandra Popp and Raheem Sterling, and how a strong player will be able to push off a weak player.
You can see some of the ways this will be used by players in game to create space and chances for attackers by drawing and blocking defenders physically.
9. New Skill Moves
With the new EA Sports FC 24 we also get a new set of Skill Moves added to the already vast array that we’ve seen in previous titles.
In EA Sports FC there are 3 new 4-Star Skill Moves and 1 new 5-Star Skill Move added.
4-Star Skills:
- Ball Roll Drag -
- This Skill move is quite quick and could be used on the touchline to floor the defender. Here’s how to do it:
- Hold L1 + Flick RS Fwd, Left/Right || Hold LB + Flick RS Fwd, Left/Right
- Drag Back Turn
- This one looks very nice but is slightly slow and will depend on your player’s stats whether it will be effective or not. Here’s how to do it:
- Hold L2 + Hold RS Back || Hold LT + Hold RS Back
- Flair Nutmegs
- This is a revival of the Directional Nutmegs introduced in previous titles and will make for some great moments, but not a lot of effectiveness. Here’s how to do it:
- Hold L1 + R1 + Flick RS Direction || Hold LB + RB + Flick RS Direction
The one 5-Star Skill added in EA Sports FC 24 is:
- Flair Rainbow
- This skill move is one that will need some space to execute but when it is pulled off, it will break controllers. Here’s how to do it:
- Hold L1 + RS Back, Forward || Hold LB + RS Back, Forward
With the introductions of PlayStyles we have the Trickster and Trickster+ PlayStyles that give us even more unique Skill Moves to use.
- Trickster Flicks - R3 + LS in desired direction
- Trickster Ball Roll - L2 + R2 || LT + RT from stand
- Trickster Ball Catch - LT + Fake Shot || LT + Fake Shot from stand
These can only be performed by players that have these PlayStyles which will make those cards even more desirable.
8. Precision Shooting
The revamp to Semi-Assisted shooting, enabling this under Shot Assistance will give players more control over the direction of their shots and reward them for it in EA Sports FC 24.
The main elements of this will be:
- Aiming Reward; players will be rewarded with increased accuracy as compared to an assisted shot the closer they aim towards the goal
- There will be a new aiming indicator under the player(this can be turned off under Trainer Settings)
- 6-Yard Box Assist; New logic to assist quick shots inside the 6-yard box so you don’t have to be precise in split-second decisions
Another improvement to shooting will be the Quick Release Shots. When tapping shoot near the goal the player will attempt to take the shot with the earliest animation possible.
This will make shots near the goal incredibly quicker and more accurate making them very useful in key moments of the game.
The requirements to execute this shot are:
- Power needs to be below 30% of the bar
- Needs to be requested within the 18-yard box - anything outside this range will be a Low Shot
I think we will need to start getting used to scoring and conceding from cutbacks even more.
7. Swerve on Demand
Focusing on giving players more control over how to play the game, EA Sports FC brings us the ability to request Swerve on Demand for our Ground Passes, Through Balls and Precision Passes(more on this later.)
Swerve on Demand option for passing allows us to map the trajectory of the ball through the field and curl it right into the paths of our players and beat defensive lines.
This feature will be a little hard to use because it depends on a player’s Curve trait to determine the quality of the pass.
Here’s how to request Swerve on Demand:
- Press L2 + X || LT + A for a Swerved Ground Pass
- Press L2 + ▲ || LT + Y for a Swerved Through Pass
- Press R1 + L2 +▲ || RB + LT + Y for a Swerved Precision Ground Pass
- Power of the pass must be above (40) power
This feature is a little low on the list because it needs both human and in-game player skill to pull off but with the right players this feature can change the way you play the game.
6. Advanced Shot Cancels
EA Sports FC 24 brings us a new way to execute Shot Cancels making it a much more viable option for us to use.
Shot Cancels are used to end an ongoing shooting animation to fool the opponent and make them commit to a block/tackle while making space to increase the percentage chances of your shots.
In EA Sports FC 24 you will be able to cancel your shots and transition into other animations like:
- Shot Cancel into Skill Moves - There are a variety of skills that if executed in a short window after powering up your shot will cancel the shot and quickly transition into the skill move
- Power Shot into Chip Shots: You can power up a Power Shot which has a slightly long animation and then press L1 || LB to cancel the power shot and make it a Chip Shot
- Power Shot into Finesse Shots: The same can be done but change the Power Shot into a Finesse Shot by pressing R1 || RB before the animation ends to change it
Some of these Skill Moves are really easy and quick to execute and using them will create a lot more opportunities for players to beat defenders and make space to create chances.
5. Controlled Sprint
Controlled Sprint introduces a new dribbling speed that is faster than a Jog, but slower than fully Sprinting.
Controlled Sprint has more controlled touches, keeping the ball closer to your player.
This mechanic allows for a faster way of building up the play, keeping the defenders on their toes and can be used to create knock-on opportunities for faster players.
Your player's Dribble and Sprint Speed attributes will affect your speed and control over the ball.
To perform Controlled Sprint, you need to hold R1 || RB while moving the LS.
Here’s a demonstration of how it will look in game:
4. AcceleRATE 2.0 [Next Gen]
The most groundbreaking change that EA Sports introduced to us last year was AcceleRATE. The terms “Lengthy, Controlled and Explosive” were the topics of hot debate all across the community for weeks.
This year, EA Sports FC 24 comes with a revamped AcceleRATE system that will allow for even more unique running types and change the way we see players move in game.
Instead of the classic 3 AcceleRATE types we will see 4 new AcceleRATE types giving us 7 in total to work with. These are:
- Controlled Explosive - 50% Explosive, 50% Controlled
- Mostly Explosive - 70% Explosive, 30% Controlled
- Controlled Lengthy - 50% Lengthy, 50% Controlled
- Mostly Lengthy - 70% Lengthy, 30% Controlled
AcceleRATE is assigned automatically to players based on a combination of their Acceleration, Height, Agility, and Strength Attributes. That said, Acceleration and Sprint Speed are still the main factors in determining how fast a player is overall.
AcceleRATE can be altered using chemistry styles and stat boosts over the course of the game cycle and we will be able to gauge just which styles are the ones that will be broken. You can find out more about Accelerate in EA FC 24 here.
Here is how AcceleRATE 2.0 is different from AcceleRATE 1.0:
Some Quick Honourable Mentions
Before we move onto our Top 3 Gameplay Features in EA Sports FC 24 there are a few that didn’t make the list but are worth some honourable mentions.
Header on Demand
- In EA Sports FC 24 you will be able to request a headed pass if the ball is 3 feet above the ground, making it an added asset if you feel like that is the best option in the situation
Advanced Defending
- Advance Defending is a new setting that changes the layout of the defending buttons. The goal is to give players the choice of what defensive action they want to launch
- Press X || A to request a Shoulder Challenge or Seal Out
- Press O || B to request a Stand Tackle
Dynamic Defensive Lines
- Players will adjust to accommodate Wingbacks making attacking runs. They will shift or drop to cover their space while the Wingbacks are out of position.
- If one Wingback has pushed up to an attacking position, the rest of the defensive line will shift to cover and play in the shape of a 3-back.
- If both Wingbacks push up to attacking positions and a Defensive Midfielder is on Drop Between Defenders then the two Center Backs will increase their width to allow the DM to drop between them and play as a 3-back
Orbit Dribble
- Orbit Dribble allows you to move around the ball without taking a touch. Use this to adjust your body position and set yourself on your stronger foot for the best shot or pass opportunity.
- This can also be used to draw in your opponent and combined with Effort Dribble to outmanoeuvre your opponent.
- To perform an Orbit Dribble: Hold L2 + L1 + LS || Hold LT + LB + LS to start moving around the ball.
- Can be turned on/off in the settings menu.
Here is how Orbit Dribble will perform in game:
Now, let's look at:
The Top 3 Gameplay Features in EA Sports FC 24
3. Effort Dribble Touch
This might just be the most effective dribbling technique we’ll see in EA Sports FC 24.
With this you can quickly knock the ball in any direction and set up your next move.
This is a great tool for moving the ball out of the path of your opponent’s feet, or to take a defender by surprise with a Controlled First Touch when used as your first touch of the ball.
To request an Effort Dribble Touch:
- Press R1 + Right Stick || RB + Right Stick for an Effort Touch.
- A quick flick with the Right Stick will result in a shorter distance knock on the ball while holding the Right Stick will knock the ball a greater distance.
With such easy controls the goodness doesn’t stop just here, you can use this incredibly easy technique to Cancel Shots/Passes as well.
With such a variety of uses all across the pitch, you will be seeing a lot of this feature in EA Sports FC 24.
Here is how a Controlled First Touch would look like:
And here is Kevin De Bruyne showing off the effectiveness of the Effort Dribble Touch:
2. Precision Passing
The ideology of EA Sports FC 24 is to provide more and more control to the players in gameplay situations.
Precision Passing embodies that ideology and gives players a mechanic that will allow them to aim their passes precisely and have the receiving players move towards the incoming ball.
This skill-based passing mechanic respects your accuracy when aiming at a target location.
To perform a Precision Pass, you have a few options:
- Press R1 + ▲ || RB + Y for a Precision Ground Pass
- Can be modified to add Swerve with L2 || LT (More info above)
- Press R1 + ■ || RB + X for a Precision Lob Pass
This new mechanic introduces more skill to passes and is designed so that players who can carve out their own space and aim precisely are rewarded for it.
Long Passing and Short Passing, with Vision and Composure contributing to a lesser extent are Player Attributes that will affect the accuracy of a Precision Lob and quality of a Precision Ground Pass along with the manual input from the users. Curve will be incorporated into the calculations when a Swerve pass is requested.
This new mechanic finds a new way to be what I feel like will be the new “Player Lock”.
It can be used to aim your passes and automatically trigger a run from the closest player to your intended pass and will be easier to use than the Player Lock mechanic.
To incorporate this the current High Driven Cross and Driven Lobbed Through Ball mechanics have been reduced which lends more credence to the fact that this will be the as close as we get to manual passing being the meta.
Here is a demonstration of how Precision Passes will work:
1. PlayStyles
Of all the new features being brought into EA Sports FC 24, this one will have the greatest impact on the players in game.
PlayStyles is EA Sports FC’s venture with Opta to bring as much realism to their players in the game.
Using the data from Opta, each player receives a set of PlayStyles that reflects the player’s style of football in real life.
With 34 PlayStyles and another 34 boosted versions of each called PlayStyles+ the ability of EA Sports FC 24 to bring different styles of play from the pitch to the game is better than ever.
With PlayStyles such as the Slide Tackle giving defenders the ability to stop the ball directly at their feet when performing a slide tackle and Trickster giving the ability to perform unique flick Skill Moves the choice of players becomes more and more important in your team.
With Opta giving EA Sports the data to assign these PlayStyles, your knowledge of how footballers play in real life will be instrumental in deciding which players to use in the game.
