Fantasy FUT Returns!
After its successful debut in FIFA 22, Fantasy FUT returns for another year in FIFA Ultimate Team.
Fantasy FUT, which is essentially EA’s own version of Fantasy Football, features dynamic Special Items that upgrade based on Players’ performances for their Clubs and the results of the Clubs they play for in real life.
Not only will we be getting a selection of Fantasy FUT Players spread across two Teams, Objectives, and SBCs this year, but we'll also witness the exciting introduction of dynamic Fantasy FUT Hero Items, which will upgrade based on results and performances of one of the Clubs they once played for during their careers.
Last year, Fantasy FUT Players could achieve 3 upgrades in total, however, this year each Base Fantasy FUT Player has the potential to achieve 4 independent upgrades, which will not only boost their Overall Rating and in-game Stats but will also provide Players who accomplish the most difficult achievement 3 new Traits. Fantasy FUT Heroes have the potential to gain 2 upgrades.

How do Fantasy FUT Players & Fantasy FUT Heroes upgrade?
Fantasy FUT upgrades are based on two metrics - the individual performances and contributions each Player makes, as well as the results of the Club the Player plays/played for. The upgrades Fantasy FUT Players and Fantasy FUT Heroes can earn work slightly differently since all FUT Heroes have retired from playing professional football.
For Fantasy FUT Players, the upgrades are awarded for the performance and results of their current Clubs, as well as their own, individual contributions to the scorelines of the games they play in. In total, Fantasy FUT Players have the potential to earn 4 upgrades.
Upgrades for Fantasy FUT Heroes are based solely on the results of a chosen Club they played for at some point in their career. Fantasy FUT Heroes can only receive 2 potential upgrades.
The upgrades Fantasy FUT Players can receive all depend on the results and performances in the first 6 domestic league fixtures starting from March 17th, so performances in Cup and European fixtures will not count towards any of the potential upgrades Fantasy FUT Players can receive, and any domestic league games played before March 17th will not count either.
How Fantasy FUT Players Upgrade
- 1 Win in the next 6 games
- 3 Appearances in the next 6 games
- Attackers/Midfielders: 2 Goals or Assists in the next 6 games. Defenders/Goalkeepers: 2 Clean Sheets in the next 6 games
- Avoids defeat in the next 6 games
How Fantasy FUT Heroes Upgrade
- Their previous Club wins 1 in the next 6 games
- Their previous Club avoids defeat in the next 6 games
How do Fantasy FUT Heroes upgrade based on their Clubs' performances if they have retired?
Upgrades for Fantasy FUT Heroes are dependent on the results of one of the Clubs the Hero played for during their career. For example, Lars Ricken, who played for Borussia Dortmund for his whole career, will receive upgrades based on the results Borussia Dortmund achieve in their respective 6 league games.
Their retirement, of course, is the reason why Fantasy FUT Heroes cannot receive upgrades based on goals, assists, and clean sheets.
What Club's results matter for each Fantasy FUT Hero?
Below is a list of the Fantasy FUT Heroes and the Clubs their upgrade opportunities depend on:
- Harry Kewell - Leeds United (Premier League)
- David Ginola - Newcastle United (Premier League)
- Joan Capdevila - Villarreal (La Liga)
- Abedi Pelé - Marseille (Ligue 1)
- Peter Crouch - Liverpool (Premier League)
- Ledley King - Tottenham Hotspur (Premier League)
- Lars Ricken - Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga)
- Iván Córdoba - Inter (Serie A)
- Sami Al-Jaber - Al Hilal (MBS Pro League)
- Jean-Pierre Papin - Marseille (Ligue 1)
- Fernando Morientes - Real Madrid (La Liga)
- Rafael Márquez - New York Red Bulls (MLS)
- Jay-Jay Okocha - Fenerbache (SuperLig)
- Antonio Di Natale - Udinese (Serie A)
- Dirk Kuyt - Feyenoord (Eredivisie)
- Saeed Al Owairan - Al-Shabab (MBS Pro League)

Mario Gomez was released in a Club Pick SBC, and each Item has a different Club that the respective Item's upgrade opportunities rely on:
- Mario Gomez - Stuttgart (Bundesliga)
- Mario Gomez - Fiorentina (Serie A)
Do Fantasy FUT Players need to play in the games to earn upgrades based on the results of their Clubs?
There are both team-based and individual-based upgrades in Fantasy FUT. A Player Item is eligible for the “Win ” and “Avoid Defeat” upgrades regardless of whether or not they feature in the six matches.
They are only eligible, however, for the “Appearances” and “Goals/Assists/Clean Sheet” upgrades if they achieve those scenarios individually in their club’s next six games.
What games count towards the potential upgrades for Fantasy FUT Players?
The only games that count towards the upgrade scenarios are the Player’s Club’s first 6 domestic league games starting from March 17th, 2023. Any league games played before March 17th do not count, nor do games in domestic cup or European competitions.
It does not matter when the specific Item is released either.
Do Fantasy FUT Players need to achieve the upgrades in a particular order?
No, there is no order in which Fantasy FUT Players must earn the upgrades. Each upgrade can be achieved independently from the other, in any order.
For example, a Forward can go 6 games without scoring a goal yet still receive the upgrade for their Club avoiding defeat in their 6 games.
How big are the upgrades Fantasy FUT Players can receive?
Fantasy FUT Players will receive a +1 Overall Rating upgrade for each of the upgrades available to them, as well as 3 new Traits for avoiding defeat in their 6 games. Overall Rating upgrades are different to Inform upgrades, which Items like RTTF Items receive – they simply will get a +1 upgrade to their Overall Rating and to each of the 6 Stats shown on the Item.
In total, base Fantasy FUT Items can receive four +1 Overall Rating upgrades, while Fantasy FUT Heroes Items can receive two +1 Overall Rating upgrades.
When do Fantasy FUT Items upgrade?
Fantasy FUT Players will upgrade weekly based on any upgrades earned after each matchday.
What counts as an Assist?
Assists are defined as the final touch leading to the recipient of the ball scoring a goal, be it from a pass, from a set piece, or even via a lucky deflection.
What counts as a Clean Sheet?
A clean sheet is awarded to a defender or goalkeeper for not conceding a goal whilst on the pitch and playing at least 60 minutes. If a player is substituted off when a goal is conceded they will still fulfill the clean sheet upgrade scenario, provided that they were substituted off before the goal was scored and they played at least 60 minutes during the match.
What does ‘Avoids Defeat’ mean?
Basically, a Club avoids defeat by either winning and/or drawing all their respective 6 games. If their Club loses any of those 6 games, the Player will not be able to get that upgrade.
What happens if an Attacker/Midfielder scores one and assists one?
The “two goals or assists” upgrade is an aggregate tally, meaning a Player Item qualifies for the +1 Overall Rating upgrade if they score two, assist two, or get one of each.
Will Fantasy FUT Players upgrade if they fulfill an upgrade requirement while playing in a different position?
The position-based upgrade Fantasy FUT Players can achieve corresponds to the position of their Fantasy FUT Item, not where the Player may play in real life.
For example, a Fantasy FUT Player like William Saliba, who is classed as a Defender, will not upgrade if he scored 2 goals whilst playing in midfield in a real-world game. Conversely, a Fantasy FUT Player like Marcos Llorente would not upgrade if they kept a clean sheet whilst playing in defence as he is classed as a Midfielder.
