Honestly, one of the best parts of the early stages of FIFA Ultimate Team is the Squad Foundations Objective players. EA tends to release a few sets early every year and it always offers fantastic value to go pick up some players for free (excluding time commitment) and be able to spend your coins on more valuable upgrades elsewhere. So far, we have had Eredivisie and Liga Portugal Squad Foudnationas, but tonight we were introduced to the MLS Squad Foundations, and it bodes very well. In addition, we got treated to a new Rulebreakers SBC for Insigne, who has recently joined the MLS, so we have to answer the question on if it's worth completing the Insigne SBC or not.
How much does Rulebreakers Insigne Cost?
Before we dive into the MLS Squad Foundations, it's worth looking at the showpiece of the MLS content from this evening and that is Lorenzo Insigne. It was a shame to see him leave Italy so early, but this meant for FIFA players, we were guaranteed to get a cool MLS card in FIFA 23 and it didn't take too long for it to arrive. The Insigne SBC only has one segment and is available for 92 days at the time of writing, so there is plenty of time to complete this SBC. You can find the requirements for the SBC below:
- Min. 1 Players from: Italy
- Min. 1 Players: Team of the Week
- Min. Team Rating: 84
One thing to note quickly is that we are starting to see the Team of the Week requirement a lot more, so hopefully, you've been smart and either kept all the TOTW cards that you've packed so far or have invested in them. The Rulebreakers Insigne SBC costs 46,500 coins, which is great. As much as it's good to see incredibly high-tier meta players being released in SBCs that cost over 300,000 coins, being able to pick up so many players like this Insigne for under 50k is amazing. Especially when it offers a worthwhile SBC to complete when you have a duplicate untradable.
Is it worth completing the Rulebreakers Insigne SBC?
This should be a pretty common opinion across the community, but the Insigne Rulebreaker is an absolute must-complete SBC regardless of what team you have. There is only one real negative about Insigne, and it's the incredibly low strength and aggression, but what more can you expect for someone that is 5'4? It would have been nice to see EA increase this considerably and properly commit to the theme of Rulebreakers, but he lost -3 dribbling and got a great boost elsewhere with +6 pace, +7 shooting, and +10 stamina.
Insigne has that 4-star combo for weak foot and skill moves and comes with Flair, Outside Foot Shot, and Finesse Shot traits. There's also the bonus that he can be played at CF which could help with squad building. It's worth highlighting, that he comes with a unique body type, and in past FIFA titles, this has always made him hugely beneficial. With there being lots of Italians and MLS players surprisingly that you can use to build chemistry on Insigne, there shouldn't be any real worry about linkability.
Complete or Yeet? Complete. This looks too good to pass up regardless of if he makes your team or is merely a super sub.
MLS Squad Foundation Players in FIFA 23
Following the same format as the previous Squad Foundation Objectives in FIFA 23, we have received four new MLS players. 3 of these can be achieved through playing Squad Battles of Division Rivals, and the final player will be achievable through Live FUT Friendlies. Let's take a look at whether or not it's worth completing these new objective players.
Is it worth completing the MLS Squad Foundation Objectives?
Below are the unique Objectives and the rewards you receive from each.
Squad Foundations MLS (Squad Battles / Rivals)
- Crossing Genius - Assist 4 goals with Crosses using players from MLS in Squad Battles on Min. Semi-Pro difficulty (or Rivals)
- Speedy Goal Scorer - Score 10 goals using players from MLS with Min. 80 PAC in Squad Battles on Min. Semi-Pro difficulty (or Rivals)
- MLS 20 - Play 20 matches in Squad Battles on Min. Semi-Pro difficulty (or Rivals) having at least 7 players from MLS in your Starting Squad.
- Patriotic Victory - Win 10 matches in Squad Battles on Min. Semi-Pro difficulty (or Rivals) having at least 7 players from MLS in your Starting Squad.
Once you complete the Crossing Genius objective, you will unlock the Nicolás Lodeiro Squad Foundation card who has the potential to be a pretty good attacking CM.
After completing the Patriotic Victory objective, you unlock DeJuan Jones who actually offers quite a lot. He has a 5* weak foot and can play both LB and RB, for example, Zambrotta is one of the limited options that can also do this. His dribbling is a bit lackluster, but outside of that, this is a cool player to have and if you want to build an MLS team throughout the game cycle, you shouldn't miss out on him.
Finally, for completing all four objectives, you get the overall reward of Facundo Quignon, who honestly looks like an incredible CDM for the current meta. If you went and completed the Eredivisie Squad Foundations along with the MLS, you could build a great hybrid with Quignon and Bazoer at the heart of your midfield and it would be great. Plus he can become Lengthy with the Architect chemistry style, so that is a bonus for those playing on the next generation.
Squad Foundations MLS (Live FUT Friendlies)
The final objective player available comes through the Live FUT Friendlies grind and the objectives are below.
- Winners Club - Win 8 matches in the Live FUT Friendly: Managerial Masterpiece using a Starting 11 of MLS players.
- MLS Goals - Score 20 goals using MLS players in the Live FUT Friendly: Managerial Masterpiece.
- Smart Distribution - Assist 10 goals using MLS players in the Live FUT Friendly: Managerial Masterpiece.
- Defensive Specialist - Assist a goal using an MLS Defender in 3 separate matches in the Live FUT Friendly: Managerial Masterpiece.
- Pure Efficiency - Score and assist using MLS players in 4 separate matches in the Live FUT Friendly: Managerial Masterpiece.
This is the only player from the entire MLS content drop tonight that I'm not sold on as there just seem to be too many holes in his stats and he doesn't necessarily offer much outside of being an MLS RB if you're fully committed to a complete MLS team.
Complete or Yeet? Complete. Despite the uncertainty over the Yedlin card, there other three look like great options for building an entertaining team, and you will be able to stack completing objectives on Squad Battles to make it even more worthwhile. Let us know if will you be completing the Insigne SBC and if will you be completing the MLS Squad Foundations.
