What are Power Shots?
Power Shots are a new skill-based shot type that adds extra power and accuracy to a shot at the cost of time and a higher degree of input precision. The intention of Power Shots is to reward players who can effectively create their own space and aim more precisely.
How to Perform Power Shots
Playstation Controllers:
- Hold L1+R1 and press the O Button
Xbox Controllers:
- Hold LB+RB and press the B Button
You will know when a player is performing a Power Shot as the in-game camera will start to zoom in towards the player taking the shot. If you find the zooming distracting during gameplay, you can deactivate it in the Camera settings.
How to be Successful with Power Shots
As Power Shots require a significant wind-up, you will need to give your player plenty of space around them in order to take the shot. Having opposition players in close proximity will not only impact your player’s ability to stay composed enough to perform an accurate Power Shot, as discussed further down in this article, but the time it takes to wind up the shot will also give opposition players more time to be able to close down and block the shot. Our very own Ben had the opportunity to try out Power Shots on the FIFA 23 Beta. Ben noted that "although you'll want to take these when given space by your opponent, and that tends to be at distance, using these closer to the goal — whenever you have space — can be very effective". It should be noted that the Beta is still an early build of FIFA 23, and is a work in progress.
Power Shots also require your aim to be very precise as they do not behave like regular assisted shots, so your ability to manually aim the ball accurately with the Left-Stick will be crucial in determining the outcome of the Power Shot.
Key Attributes
The following Attributes impact the proficiency of Power Shots the most:
- Shot Power – Impacts the speed of the ball and determines the amount of power a player can put into a shot while maintaining accuracy.
- Finishing – Impacts the accuracy of shots taken inside of the penalty area.
- Long Shots – Impacts the accuracy of shots taken outside of the penalty area.
- Composure – Impacts the distance the player with the ball starts to feel pressure from an opposing player, as well as impacting the chances of the player making an error when they shoot and pass when under pressure.
The higher the aforementioned Attributes, the better a player will be at taking a Power Shot.
Composed Ball Striking [NG]
First-time or volleyed Power Shots interact with the new Composed Ball Striking [NG] system, which allows players to control the ball first and then immediately perform a powerful shot animation, enabling players to transition more smoothly in certain shooting situations that require the ball to be controlled first, as well as refining first-time shots and any shots being performing on balls traveling in the air. (Only available on Next-Generation Consoles).
