EA has shared with us all the details for the latest Title Update coming to FIFA 23, which will soon be available for the PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One versions of FIFA 23.
AcceleRATE Boosted
When the 3 new AcceleRATE archetypes, Explosive, Lengthy, and Controlled, were introduced at the start of FIFA 23, the attention of the FIFA community was drawn to the effectiveness of Lengthy players, such as Erling Haaland and Virgil van Dijk, but little attention was paid to the players classed as Explosive, such as Vinícius Jr., because those players just did not have the impact that the Lengthy meta had on the game at the start of the game. Since then, the over-effectiveness of Lengthy players has been nerfed in a previous patch, while Explosive players have been slightly improved over time.
With Title Update #9, Explosive players have been another little boost as they will now accelerate slightly faster during the early stages of sprinting, making them just a little bit more explosive than they were before. On a similar note, there’s also been a general fix to player acceleration, as a bug where players took longer than expected to start sprinting with that ball has been fixed.

Auto-Tackling Nerfed, but Ball-Winning Chances Boosted
Meanwhile, auto-tackling (when players attempt a tackle without being requested) has seen its effectiveness nerfed with the range at which players will attempt auto-tackle being slightly reduced. This will mean defending players will now need to be closer to the opposition player with the ball in order for them to attempt a tackle without any input from the user.
In more good news, a couple of tweaks have been made to placate some frustrations users have with tackling, particularly where the ball travels after a tackle or interception. Firstly, when intercepting the ball while jockeying, the player is now better able to take control of the ball instead of it bouncing away from the player, so now whenever one of your players makes an interception, they should be able to keep control of the ball rather than see it fall out of their possession. Secondly, the likelihood of your player kicking the ball out of play when making a tackle near the touchline was higher than intended, so that particular issue has been addressed.
Below is a summary of all the updates coming to gameplay and to FIFA 23 Ultimate Team in the new Title Update.
Gameplay
Animations:
- Players with the Explosive AcceleRATE archetype now accelerate slightly faster during the early stages of a requested sprint.
- In some cases, a player could take longer than intended to start sprinting with the ball when a sprint was requested.
Defending:
- When intercepting the ball while jockeying, the player is now better able to take control of the ball instead of it bouncing away from the player.
- Improved contextual logic when determining if a Standing Tackle request should lead to a defending player performing a Standing Tackle or a Push/Pull.
- This change will result in more Standing Tackles being performed than Pushes or Pulls, in some situations.
- Slightly decreased the range required for a defender to attempt a tackle without being requested to do so.
- When performing a tackle near the touchline, defenders could sometimes kick the ball out of play more often than intended.
Passing:
- Increased accuracy of Driven Ground Passes made to teammates ahead of the ball carrier, in situations where the passer is under no pressure from defenders.
Shooting:
- Slightly increased the likelihood of a knuckleball shot occurring when requesting a Power Shot.
- Decreased the speed that the ball can travel at from a free kick taken with the outside of the foot.
Refereeing:
- Improved referee logic when determining potential penalty kick fouls near the edge of the box.
Goalkeeping:

- This was most noticeable in 1 on 1 situations.

- In rare cases, the camera would not position itself as intended for penalty kicks.
FIFA Ultimate Team:
