What is AcceleRATE?
The AcceleRATE feature is next-generation (PC, PS5 & Xbox Series X|S) and was introduced in FIFA 23. It expands upon the player movement system, dividing players into five unique acceleration types.
The new feature, which is inspired by real-life differences between footballers where even players with similar speeds can accelerate very differently across the pitch, has been introduced as a way to showcase more personality in player acceleration, with the goal of improving the viability of different types of players.
AcceleRATE was one of the big changes in FIFA 23, and it returns in EA FC 24, although with some changes to the system.
The changes include more AcceleRATE archetypes, and varied player height, agility, and strength criteria.
What are the different AcceleRATE archetypes?
Most players will fit into the default acceleration type called Controlled; however, there are six other types:
Explosive - These are shorter and more agile players who are able to quickly cover short distances and get ahead of their opponents, even if that means slowing down after the initial burst of acceleration.
Mostly Explosive: 70% Explosive, 30% Controlled
Controlled Explosive: 50% Explosive, 50% Controlled
Controlled - Most players in FIFA 23 will fall into the Controlled type as they accelerate uniformly in a controlled manner.
Controlled Lengthy: 50% Lengthy, 50% Controlled
Mostly Lengthy: 70% Lengthy, 30% Controlled
Lengthy - As they’re taller and stronger, these players need more time to get going, but they’re able to catch up to, or even surpass, anyone if they have enough distance.
In short, players on the Explosive side will likely do better at short distances and one on one situations as opposed to players on the Lengthy side, who will do better over long distances such as in breakaways after a through ball behind the defence.
How are AcceleRATE archetypes assigned?
AcceleRATE is assigned automatically to players based on a combination of their Height, Agility, and Strength Attributes, although Acceleration and Sprint Speed are still the main factors in determining how fast a player is overall.
This is how the AcceleRATE archetypes are assigned:
Explosive:
- Agility >= 80
- (Agility - Strength) >= 20
- Acceleration >= 80
- Height <= 175 cm (~ 5’9”)
- Example player: Lionel Messi
Mostly Explosive:
- Agility >= 70
- (Agility - Strength) >= 12
- Acceleration >= 80
- Height <= 182 cm (~ 6’0”)
- Example player: Kylian Mbappe
Controlled Explosive:
- Agility >= 65
- (Agility - Strength) >= 4
- Acceleration >= 70
- Height <= 182 cm (~ 6’0”)
- Example player: Bernardo Silva
Controlled Lengthy
- Strength >= 65
- (Strength - Agility) >= 4
- Acceleration >= 40
- Height >= 181 cm (~ 5’11”)
- Example player: Karim Benzema
Mostly Lengthy
- Strength >= 75
- (Strength - Agility) >= 12
- Acceleration >= 55
- Height >= 183 cm (~ 6’0”)
- Example player: Erling Haaland
Lengthy
- Strength >= 80
- (Strength - Agility) >= 20
- Acceleration >= 55
- Height >= 188 cm (~ 6’2”)
- Example player: Virgil Van Dijk
Controlled
- Any player that does not meet the other requirements above
- Example player: Alex Morgan
The archetype a player is assigned to is determined before kick-off, so it’s important to note that it is affected by Attribute changes that can happen before the match, such as Chemistry, but it is not impacted by Attribute changes that happen once the game has started, like loss of stamina.
How do I find out what archetype a player is?
On the FUT.GG database you can see the AcceleRATE archetypes assigned to every single player in the game. To see what archetypes have been assigned to each player, you can either go to a player’s profile and look in the bio on the left of the page, or underneath the AcceleRATE and Sprint Speed, to see which archetype they’ve been assigned, or you can go to the Player Database and filter the list so you’ll only see players who have the archetype you want by choosing the filter option in the Miscellaneous section.
Do Chemistry Styles affect a player’s archetype?
Yes, Chemistry Styles can change a player’s archetype.
When the game is assigning archetypes before kick-off, it takes into consideration what the player’s Attributes are after the Chemistry Styles boosts are applied, this means that, for example, it’s possible for a player who would initially be assigned into the Controlled archetype to fit into the Lengthy archetype instead as their boosted in-game Attributes now make them eligible for the different archetype.
As an example, Erling Haaland is automatically assigned into the Mostly Lengthy archetype, however, if you give him a Chemistry Style like Hawk, his Attributes are boosted in a sufficient manner that makes him eligible to be considered Lengthy.
Not every player in the game can do this though, as some player’s Attributes are just too low to be able to fit into a different archetype despite the boosts Chemistry Styles can bring. Chemistry Styles also can’t change Attributes such as height, so some players may have the Agility and Strength to be considered Explosive, but are too tall to achieve it in game.
You can use the Chemistry Style picker on any player’s profile in our database to see if, or how, a Chemistry Style can change a player’s archetype once they’ve been applied, just remember that not every player will be able to switch archetypes.
Is there a way to make non-Lengthy players Lengthy?
As mentioned above, Chemistry Styles can change a player’s archetype by boosting a player’s Attributes in such a way that they meet the criteria for a different archetype, which means you can make a player Lengthy just by applying the right Chemistry Style.
As it’s impossible to find out what a player’s archetype would be with their respective Chemistry Style applied before you enter a game, you can use our ‘Is He Lengthy?’ tool to find out if there are any Chemistry Styles that would modify your chosen player’s Attributes in such a way to make them become Lengthy.
Will Lengthy be as meta in EA FC 24?
It is hard to say if Lengthy will be as good in EA FC 24 as it was in FIFA 23. Additionally, most of the Women players cannot be Lengthy, which could lead to a game balancing issue if Lengthy is overpowered.
